- In 2012, Payal Rohatgi alleged sexual harassment by director Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap.
- She was banned from Twitter for a week for “communalizing” the 2019 Hyderabad gang rape. Rohatgi was blocked by the Mumbai Police’s Twitter handle in 2019, but later unblocked her when the chief minister’s wife Amrita Fadnavis raised her voice in support.
- During the 2018 Kerala floods, Payal Rohatgi claimed that it was God’s wrath due to cow slaughter. Her comment was called “insensitive” and she was trolled on Twitter because of her comments.
- In July 2019, she also commented on the disparity in Islam in Instagram on Zaira Wasim’s decision to quit Bollywood. A police complaint was filed against her at the Oshiwara police station in August 2019 over her remarks.
